| Hawkins Garage circa late 1930's - early 1940's |
|
| Our Location:
Prior to being the home of Taylor Street Rods, our location was known as Hawkins Garage. Established by Walter Hawkins in the mid 1920’s as a fine neighborhood gas station and garage, Hawkins garage was a thriving business in East Los Angeles.
In the early 1950’s Walter’s son Bud, a WWII fighter pilot veteran took over as owner and successfully reconstructed Hawkins Garage into a full service garage.
In late 1971, after serving in the Vietnam War, Dale Taylor joined Hawkins Garage as Bud Hawkins’ ace mechanic.
On March 1, 2008 the garage became the home for Taylor Street Rods and for owner Dale Taylor it’s a home he’s known for over 37 years.

| Our Owner:
Dale Taylor comes from a long line of mechanics including his father William Aubel who established Olympic Auto Parts Garage in the mid 1950’s. Originally located on Olympic Blvd. in Los Angeles but due to the construction of the Santa Ana freeway the garage was relocated to Ford Blvd. Olympic Auto Parts Garage offered outstanding and friendly service where William Aubel specialized in rebuilding 6 cylinder engines for Chevy’s.
Dale, who has been working on cars since he was 13 years old, learned the “old school” tricks of the trade handed down by his father William and utilizes this knowledge in all his projects. After faithfully serving his country in Vietnam, Dale joined Hawkins Garage in late 1971 and became the garage’s ace mechanic for over 36 years.
On March 1, 2008 Dale brought his 45 years of experience to the forefront and established Taylor Street Rods on 4466 East Whittier Blvd. in Los Angeles.
